TCube Art Foundation Announces Playwriting Contest For Nigerian Teenage Girls

…declares N100,000 prize for winner

A Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) dedicated to promoting creativity and artistic works, TCube Art Foundation, has announced its maiden edition of playwriting competition for teenage girls in Nigeria.

TCube Art Foundation states that the idea is conceived to discover and support budding female playwrights in Nigeria. According to the custodian of the NGO’s award, Dr. (Mrs) Tosin Kooshima Tume, who is the Lead, Steering Committee of the African Women Playwrights Network (AWPN), an international organization for African women playwrights, the successful candidate in the playwriting contest will receive a prize of One hundred thousand Naira (N 100, 000), and be mentored by an established African female playwright.

The following are the criteria stated for eligibility in the contest: the playwright must be female Nigerian living in Nigeria; the playwright must be between of 13 and 17 years old, the play must not have been published or produced before, the play must be written in English and must be full length (20 page minimum).

Other instructions given are that: each entry must be saved as the title of the play and submitted as attachment in PDF format, the author’s name must not appear anywhere in the play document, and each entry must be accompanied with the following information separately in the body of the email: name of the author, title of the play, cell phone number on which the author can be contacted, email on which the author can be contacted, author’s birth certificate,
author’s state of origin, author’s current class/educational status, and a signed letter of consent by author’s parents or guardian.

Play submissions and enquiries should be emailed to the following email address: stargirlplaywritingprize@gmail.com, just as submissions must be made on or before August 31, 2024. This instruction is to be strictly adhered to, as any play submitted after this deadline will not be considered. TCube Art Foundation states that the winner will be announced in September, 2024.
