TAKE ACTIVE PART IN POLITICS…Ekiti Bishop’s Wife Urges Christians

By Bayo Famoroti

All Christian faithful have been called upon to fulfill their civic responsibilities by obtaining voters card and participate in politics.

The call was made in a communiqué issued at the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) Mothers Union Executive meeting held at St Andrew’s Anglican Church Rumuobiokani Deanery, Obio, Rivers State, Diocese of Evo.

It was stated that as creations saddled with dual citizenship and responsibilities, being apolitical entails disobedience to God  and that they should register, obtain your voters card, fulfill your Civic responsibilities and vote in good governance.

The Mothers’ Union executive accentuated that women are God’s secret weapons if they are faithful unto Him and urged to fight and win the battle of life and know who they are as vessels and instruments of warfare in God’s hand.

The Union observed with deep concern, the deplorable crisis exemplified and fueled by widespread insecurity, kidnapping, maiming, banditry, insurgency, overriding control of non-state actors over the governance of state actors, purporting anarchy and looming danger for the country.

Nigerian government  was asked to rise up to its task in restoration of enduring peace else Nigeria may be consumed; adding that agencies vested with border control duties in the nation should intensify efforts to forestall illegal migrants that constitute nuisance in the country.

On the education sector, it was observed that the inhuman treatment meted by some school administrators/teachers to pupils/students under their care is worrisome and has remained antithetical to sustainable development and the Union warned that if the incessant attacks are not proactively dealt with, the future of this nation might be doomed.

In her own address, the Ekiti Diocese president, Mrs. Abimbola Ajayi, harped on the need to have the fear of God, pointing out that the church of today is suffering because it does not have the fear of God.

She said it seems people would rather concentrate on the mercy of God rather than His fear; adding that if we live in the fear of God, people will fear us also.
“As we learn to fear God, we need to be willing to let go of that sin in our lives or God will expose it for us. Let the church be known as a church that fears God. Be warned that if we are not willing to seek His Holiness and learn to fear Him, He is more than able to impose that fear Himself,” she said.

Mrs. Ajayi then quoted Ecclesiastes 12:13-14  which says “Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matters; fear God and keep His commandments for this is the whole duty of man”.
