Some stakeholders on Wednesday, called for policies to encourage more women participation in politics in the country.

The stakeholders made the call at a one-day summit entitled “Postmortem Dialogue on Assessing Violence Against Women and Women Participation in the 2023 General Elections” organised by Women’s Situation Room Nigeria, WSRN, in Ado-Ekiti.

The Project Officer of WSRN from Ebonyi State, Mrs Stella Kalu said the major focus of the body is to restore the rights of women, peace strategies and good governance.

According to her, the situation room focuses on free and fair election and to encourage women to come out for elective positions where there is balance and equity.

She charged the stakeholders to collaborate and work together ahead of the next election towards changing the narrative.

On her part, the Assistant Secretary of Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, in Ekiti State, Mrs Niyi Olayinka called for more awareness and economic empowerment to encourage women participation in politics.

She urged political parties to cut down their nomination and interest fee to 75% while admonishing the women to imbibe self-worth and self-awareness in their quest to actively involve in governance.

During a panel discussion on “Promoting women’s political participation ahead of the 2027 General Elections”, the panelist tasked women to support their fellow women during elections.

The stakeholders went further to call on women to actively involve in politics from the ward level to the national level while calling on political parties to desist from political manipulative tendencies against women.

The event had in attendance stakeholders from the CSOs, media, security agencies, among others.
