…says Detention violates liberty

By Akubulu Ngozi

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP has moved President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the immediate release of the suspended Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, following his suspension detention.

The move for his release was made through its Official Twitter Account @SERAPNigeria, today.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu suspended Bawa on the 14th of June, 2023 and has since remained under the custody of the State Security Service, SSS , without any legal explanation about his offence.

Following this, SERAP charged the President to provide legally recognisable reasons for his offence or face court proceedings, adding that, Bawa’s detention is infringing to hisliberty.

It states, “The Tinubu administration must immediately release the suspended Chairman of EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa from arbitrary detention or charge him with a legally recognizable offence. We’ll see in court if the authorities continue to flagrantly violate his right to liberty.”
