SALLAH: FRSC DEPLOYS 743 VEHICLES, 92 AMBULANCES, 144 MOTORBIKES, OTHERS TO CHECK ROAD CRASHES

…Threatens to Sanction Erring Road Users

Ahead of the Eid-El-Kabir celebration, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has launched a special patrol operation to curtail road obstructions and accidents.

Speaking with reporters in Ado-Ekiti, the FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Muhammed confirmed that over 743 patrol vehicles, 184 administrative vehicles 92 ambulances, 23 tow trucks and 144 motorbikes are being deployed in respect to the operation.

The Corps Marshal who spoke through FRSC Zonal Commanding Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM), Dr. Godwin Omiko, noted that the objectives of the special operations were to achieve reduction in road traffic crashes, fatalities and injuries, adding that special units will be made available for prompt response to road issues.

He warned alcohol sellers in Bus Parks to steer clear, noting that selling alcohol in motor parks and its consumption by drivers are unacceptable, saying the corps is working with relevant agencies to address the ugly situation.

Speaking on the enforcement strategies, the Corps Marshal said that a situation room had been established at the National Headquarters, and over 200 Mobile Courts operations will be stationed to attend to cases of offenders.

He said the officers of the corps would look out for offenses such as over speeding, overtaking, Lane indiscipline/Route violation, Road Obstructions, use of Phone while Driving Overloading, Seatbelt/Child restraint use Violations, Passenger’s Manifest Violation, Operation of mechanical deficient and rickety vehicles, Loading of trailers with passengers Illegal use of the Spy Number Plates.”

Mr. Shehu Muhammed warned truck drivers to desist from conveying passages on loads and animals saying any one caught in such act would be sanctioned.

The Corps Marshal affirmed that officers of the corps have been well trained to maintain discipline on the road but in the case of any illegal action involving officers, such should be reported to appropriate quarters and the culprits would be dealt with.
