By Precious Oham

Corps Members in Ekiti State have been advised to acquire vocational skills through the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, SAED, programme so as to become self-employed.

The NYSC Ekiti State Coordinator, Mary Nenna Chikezie, gave the charge on Friday, while addressing the 2022 Batch C Stream II corps members at the SAED exhibition programme at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ise-Orun/Emure, Ekiti State.

She said that the SAED initiative of the NYSC is to foster and boost self reliance and entrepreneurship in Nigerian graduates, urging Corps members to continue post-camp SAED training in their respective Places of Primary Assignment.

Her words: “The idea of SAED in camp is to arouse your interest in skills acquisition. You would agree with me that whatever you have learnt is just a bit of the skills. We are enjoining you to continue with the skills acquisition to ensure that the already burning candle does not go into extinction.”

The SAED programme which is part of the Orientation Course content will enable trainers to engage corps members in skills such as Tailoring, Tye and Dye, Make Up/Gele Tying, Hair making, Shoe making, Cosmetology, photography, shoe and bag making etc.

Other highlights of the event was a colourful exhibition by the various segments of the skills while the State Coordinator and other camp officials went round the various skills exhibition stand to observe what was being displayed.
