The Acting Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Mrs Christy Uba has charged corps members in Ekiti State to promote national unity and development during their service year.

Mrs Uba stated this in her address at the swearing in ceremony of the 2022 Batch C Stream II corps members, on Tuesday, at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ise-Orun/Emure, Ekiti State.

The NYSC Acting DG, represented by the NYSC Ekiti State Coordinator, Mrs Mary Nenna Chikezie, charged corps members to entrench the culture of working together in an atmosphere filled with friendship, peace and harmony.

While urging them to avoid using social media to spread fake news and fueling hatred, she enjoined them to utilise it to promote national unity and development.

Mrs Uba went further to encourage the corps members to avail themselves of the opportunities for self-employment offered through the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme.

Her words: “One of the objectives of NYSC is to promote national unity and integration. Therefore your deployment to States apart from your origin and also your assemblage here from diverse ethnic, religious and socio-economic backgrounds is in pursuant to this noble objective.

“This will not only offer you the opportunity for a broader understanding of the country, but also entrench the culture of working together in an atmosphere filled with friendship, peace, harmony, and a shared vision of a great and prosperous Nigeria.”

Similarly, the Executive Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, represented by the Head of Service, Barrister Bamidele Agbede, congratulated the corps members on the historic achievement.

He urged them to feel safe and welcome, noting that Ekiti is peaceful, hospitable enterprising and abounds with opportunities they can utilise to exhibit the ideals of the scheme for the growth of the nation.
