Ahead of the Peoples Democratic Party congresses in Ekiti State, the Chairmanship aspirant, Chief Segun Akinwumi has declared that he was readily and adequately prepared to take over from the outgoing chairman of the party, Engineer Agboola Alaba come August this year.
The former Commissioner for Lands and Housing who was at the state secretariat with his entourage congratulated Agboola Alaba led State Working Committee over the recent withdrawal of appeal against him and the party saying that he was God sent to reconcile and reposition the party at this material time and described him as a pathfinder.
The former Commissioner for Education went down memory lane :”I have known you right away from the preparation for the second term of Ayo Fayose as Governor of this state when Chief Makanjuola Ogundipe was made the party chairman against Barrister Akin Omole and when you were the Director General of Caleb Olubolade Campaign Organization up till the time when we were both at the ‘Re positioning Group and I know you to be an honest leader”.
The former Commissioner for Water Resources congratulated Agboola Alaba and made his intention known to him to contest for the position of the state chairman.
Akinwumi asserted: “It is pertinent to let you know that I had started the race to be the state chairman since March 1, last year. I am at the party secretariat today together with some of my team members to inform you formally that I am adequately prepared to take over from you by August this year and to take over from where you have stopped and eventually lead us to Ekiti State Government House come 2026 by the special grace of God”.
The former Director General, Due Process stressed further: “Since the time table for the congresses is out, I am here to meet with you, inform you that I am ready to take over from you, carry on with your vision, ensuring our victory in all our elections”.
“You are my brother and my state chairman and now, I will be meeting with people in different form and I deem it feet to inform you formally before I begin to move round the state.”
“We want to go back to Ekiti Government House. I am used to it. I was part of the team that returned Ayo Fayose in his second term and we ensured that we made it to the Government House and this time around, I am urging you and the party to allow me with the help of God and party faithfuls to allow me again this time as your state chairman”. Akinwumi asserted.
While welcoming Akinwumi and his entourage, the state party chairman, Engineer Agboola Alaba confirmed Chief Akinwumi”s flashback on him and prayed for his success in the chairmanship race and encouraged him to go ahead and have the believe that it is only God that crowns.
“I was sleeping in my house at Ipoti Ekiti expecting a visitor, along the line, a thought came to me that I should contest for the chairmanship position of the party ,Ijero Local Government but God finally made me the state chairman through a phone call and I can tell you, I am the most troubled state chairman in the history of Ekiti state PDP”.
” I know you to be a goal getter and I assured you of a level playing ground because people are ready to join this party the moment we get it right and we are ready”. Agboola declared.
He continued: “I promise you under my watch that there is going to be a level playing ground because the NEC of our party had assured us that they will not take any list from anybody and we are guided by the rules of engagement”.
It would be recalled that the National Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party met in Abuja last week Thursday to take far reaching decisions among which it rolled out the time table for state congresses starting from June.
Those in the entourage of the four times former Commissioner in Ekiti State are the former Executive Secretaries of Irepodun/ Ifelodun Local Council, Gani Salau and Prince Adebola Adeyeye, former Supervisors at the Ekiti South West and Ido Osi Local Councils, Wole Adedara aka, Esuru and Prince Sunday Adelusi together with Samson Alabi Siasia.
