OWO Massacre: Security Agents Must Be More Combatant…Occupational Safety and Health Association

…. Wants Thorough investigation, Justice

The Occupational Safety and Health Association(OSHA) – Nigeria Region has commiserated with the families of the victims who lost their lives at the wanton killing of worshippers perpetratedby unknown gunmen that stormed the St Francis Catholic church,Owo,Ondo state.during the Sunday service.

No fewer than 35 persons lost their lives at the gory incident carried out by terrorists who attacked innocent Nigerians on a Holy day of worship.

The President of OSHAssociation- Nigeria Region, HRH, Dr, Amb. Olusegun Aderemi in a condolence message full of grief and sympathy to the Owo Community, the government and people of Ondo State and the Country in general expressed his sadness over the attack which he termed as the heinous killing of worshippers by wicked and warped minds meted out by terrorists.

Aderemi said:

“My heart goes out to the good people of Ondo State, especially the families of the victims, the Government and the entire country at large.

“This ugly and gruesome incident should be painstakingly investigated to unravel the criminals behind it to quickly bring them to justice.

Dr Aderemi further urged security agencies to up their game to avert the occurrence of such incidents in the future.

According to the Safety Association’s President, security intelligence must be deployed to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.

“Local intelligence collections need to be geared towards preventing such incidents.

“The security situation might be worse than we think, and we must upscale our security fits especially in training security personnel as well as ensuring that the nation’s airports, trains, buses, courts, schools, malls, churches, mosques, banks and other public places are provided and equipped with screening machines and CCTV cameras.

“As a matter of urgency, the federal government and the various state governments should promptly act on intelligence reports compiled by the State Security Service and other security agencies as this will not just ensure improved security but will see that lives and properties are not lost to terror attacks.”

“While praying for the repose of the souls of those killed, the Regional President wished the injured a speedy recovery and called on Stakeholders to upscale the security fits of the nation as this will not just install peace but will boost the confidence of the citizenry. He also charged the general public to be vigilant as ‘Security and Safety is everyman’s business.’

The OSHAssociation is still in consolidation to its mandate of ensuring that fatalities and incidents in workplaces are stunted and understands that Safety and security are intertwined. To this extent, anything that affects the security of the citizenry either at work, home or anywhere is a serious issue that needs to be addressed for the betterment and growth of any nation and its economy.
