NYSC Gets New DG, Resumes Office Today

By Christopher Philomina

President Muhammad Buhari has approved the appointment of Brig. General Yusha’u Ahmed as the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC.

He will officially take over today, Monday, from Christy Uba, who piloted the affairs of the scheme for about three months.

Mrs Uba, the most Senior Director, was appointed by the Presidency in an acting capacity following the sacking of Brig. General Mohammed Fadah.

She was also the Corps’ Director, Information and Communication Technology as of the time she was named the Acting DG on November 22, 2022.

It was gathered that the announcement of the new substantive DG was contained in an invite on Uba’s handing over that was sent to newsmen on Sunday.

The invite tagged: “I am directed to invite you to the handing ceremony from the acting DG to the NYSC, Brig Gen. Y.D Ahmed, holding on Monday, 30, 2023, by 11:30am at the major Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim conference Hall, NYSC Headquarters, maitama Abuja.”

Uba had, shortly after her appointment in an acting capacity, promised to restore the status of the organisation to make it more viable.
