NBA IKERE-EKITI BRANCH COMMENCES 2024 LAW WEEK

…as Chairman, Dr Afolayan extols role of lawyers in nation building

The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Ikere-Ekiti Branch has commenced its 2024 Law Week with the 5th Chief Wole Olanipekun Public Lecture.

Speaking on the theme of the lecture “Law, Justice, Economy and Food Security: The Role of Lawyers and Government” held at Chief Wole Olanipekun Bar Centre, Ikere Ekiti, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ondo State, Mr Olukayode Ajulo, SAN, who was represented Dr Adeolu Efotan emphasized that lawyers were the custodians of the rule of law while urging them to uphold the tenet of the profession.

He highlighted the crucial role of legal professionals in navigating legal frameworks, advocating for policies, and defending the interests of farmers, producers, and consumers.

Mr Ajulo further elaborated on the broader responsibilities of the legal profession in facilitating economic growth and stability.

Also, the Attorney General and Commisioner for Justice in Ekiti State, Mr Dayo Apata commeded Ikere Ekiti NBA for the topic, saying it was apt at this period noting that the state is working to ensure food security through provision of inputs to farmers.

On his part, the Ekiti State Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Ebenzer Boluwaji said the state government had gone into agreement with a multinational company to ensure food surplus in the state, saying that measures were also put in place to prevent cows from destroying farms produce.

In the same vein, the Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Mr Steve Aribasoye said the House would not relent in sponsoring bills that would improve the socio economy activities of the state.

Earlier at a press conference, the Chairman, NBA, Ikere Branch, Dr Michael Afolayan noted that the Ikere-Ekiti NBA branch plays a crucial role in advancing the legal profession in the State with aims to foster interaction between lawyers and the public, address governance and social challenges, reinforce the NBA’s commitment to the rule of law and professional excellence

Dr Afolayan stated that this year’s Law Week with the themed “Law, Justice, Economy and Food Security: The Role of Lawyers and Government,” would address Nigeria’s current challenges and highlighted the role of lawyers in supporting government efforts.

The NBA Chairman commended the contributions of a legal icon, Chief Wole Olanipekun to legal profession in Nigeria, urging him to continue in such direction

The programe which will continue on Wednesday at Wole Olanipekun Bar Centre, Ikere Ekiti with fourth Justice, Michael Ekundayo Ogundare Annual Publuc Lecture will also caputre young lawyers’ hangout, a Black Tie Law Dinner and will be concluded with Thanksgiving Service on Sunday at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Ikere-Ekiti.
