Naira Scarcity: 3 Dead as Protesters Attack CBN

Violent protest erupted at the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Headquarters in Benin City, Edo State as unconfirmed reports has it that three persons lost their lives at the scene of the protest, which occured on Wednesday.

According to sources, the protesters, who had wielding sticks, stones and other weapons attacked and destroyed a First Bank Branch in the area before heading to the CBN branch with the intention to wreck havoc.

“It happened this morning at Ring Road, King Square in Upper,” a source told FIJ. “They just attacked and destroyed First Bank, then they started stoning the CBN branch that was just close by.

“They did not touch Polaris Bank. It was only First Bank and CBN. Soldiers came out and started shooting teargas and gunshots. Three people have died already.”

Meanwhile, soldiers in military vehicles responded by releasing teargas cannisters and firing gunshots to disperse the protesters.
