Naira Redesign: CBN bows to Supreme Court ruling

… Says old 200, 500 and 1000 naira note remains legal tender

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has stated that the 200, 500 and 1000 naira note remains legal tender along side the redesigned bank notes till 31st December, 2023.

The Bank made this statement recently in a press statement signed by its Director of Corporate Communication, Isa AbdulMumin.

According to the statement, this is in compliance with the established tradition of obedience to court orders and sustenance of rule of law principle that characterized the government of President Mohammadu Buhari and by extension the operations of the CBN as a regulator”.

Also, the CBN has met with Bankers’ committee, all deposits Banks operating in Nigeria are directed to comply with the Court ruling and conform accordingly.
