The Chairman, National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners, NAGGMDP, Ekiti State, Dr Akinleye Alo has faulted a publication in popular online media where he was quoted to have said that the Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyenbanji has not shown commitment to improving the welfare of doctors.
At a press conference held at the Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ekiti State, Dr Alo confirmed that he was interviewed by the media outfit but noted that he was totally misconstrued.
“I wish to state that my anention has been brought to an online newspaper publication in Premium Times on March 16th 2023, which misrepresented me.
“In the said newspaper. 1 Dr Alo Akinleye was misrepresented and misquoted as follows: “Mr Akinleye said the Governor who has only spent a couple of months in office has “NOT” shown commitment to improving the welfare of doctors and resolving the issues that have lingered from the past Administration.
“I have reached out to the reporter in question who promised that the error will be corrected but surprisingly till now this is yet to be done.
“For the avoidance of doubt what I said was that, the Governor who has only spent a couple of Months in office has show commitment to improving the welfare of doctors and resolving the issues that have lingered from the past administration.
“The word “NOT” was inserted in the sentence by the editor of the newspaper.
“The insertion of this “NOT” changed the entire tone and complexion of the interview which was meant to draw attention to the state of Primary and Secondary Healthcare levels, while at the same time appreciating the giant strides and the commitment our Governor has shown to the welfare of workers since assumption office”.
Also, the chairman denied another part in the publication that claimed that the union threatened to embark on strike which he said was not also the truth.
He noted that it would be unfair to cause Governor Oyebanji of poor attention to health care when he had barely spent six months hence, he urged members of the public to disregard the publication.
Alo confirmed that the sincerity level of the Governor towards them has been encouraging, which is why they are negating the comments published on Premium Times.
He said, as humans, it is not fair to pay one who has done good to you with evil. The Governor has been showing great commitments towards ensuring that our problems and needs are met, it is very absurd to pay him back with this.”
He also assured residents of the state that members of the Association remains committed to rendering clinical services to communities.
