The Cross River State Police Command has apprehended a 30-year-old man, Amber Ubung, for reportedly assaulting his lover, Blessing Onawu, with a machete after she failed to visit him on Valentine’s Day as promised.
According to the State Commissioner of Police, CP Gyogon Grimah, the incident occurred in Okuni community, Ikom Local Government Area of the State.
CP Grimah disclosed that the suspect attacked Onawu, 25, with a machete for not keeping her promise to spend Valentine’s night with him, despite receiving N7,000 from him for her hairdressing.
“After waiting in vain for the lady to show up, the suspect, Ubung, armed himself with a machete, went to Onawu’s house, and assaulted her with several machete cuts all over her body with the intent to kill her,” CP Grimah stated.
He further mentioned that when the victim’s mother intervened to rescue her daughter, she was also injured by the suspect.
A police team swiftly responded to the scene, apprehended the suspect, and confiscated the machete. Ubung was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and will be charged to court once the investigation concludes.
CP Grimah also informed that both the victim and her mother are receiving medical treatment in different hospitals.
In urging the public to support law enforcement efforts by sharing information to combat crime, CP Grimah reassured the public of the command’s commitment to maintaining peace and order in Cross River State.
