Lagos State Government to Relocate Ikeja Computer Village

The Lagos State Government has announced plans to relocate the Ikeja Computer Village to Katangua in the Abule-Egba area.

According to Dr. Olajide Babatunde, the Special Adviser to the Governor on e-GIS and Urban Development, the decision stems from the fact that the current location of the electronic gadgets village in Ikeja is within a residential area.

During a visit to the Ikeja Computer Village, an assessment was conducted by the Lagos State Building Control Agency, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies and other relevant government bodies.

Dr. Babatunde clarified that the plan to relocate the center to Abule Egba had been delayed due to certain reasons, but reassured that the issues were being addressed.

He stated that occupants of the residential area within the Computer Village would soon be relocated and settled in Katangua, Abule Egba.

Explaining the choice of Katangua, Dr. Babatunde highlighted its good road network and ample space to accommodate the traders from the Computer Village. Emphasizing that the move was in line with the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development’s model city plan for the area.

Responding to concerns about congestion in the market, Dr. Babatunde emphasized that no market emerges without the population around the area.

He assured that the relocation would provide a conducive environment for businesses to thrive, with market stores, banking facilities, clinics, schools, crèche, storage facilities, and housing, including hotels for visitors.

Regarding the price outlook, Dr. Babatunde acknowledged the fluctuating prices of building materials but assured that the government would work to control costs. He also highlighted ongoing consultations with market leaders and the gradual nature of the relocation process.

Earlier reports had indicated the Lagos State Government’s intention to re-organize markets in the state, with the relocation of the Computer Village being part of the initiative.
