In a shocking incident, suspected kidnappers have abducted the corpse of late Ugwuanyi Israel from Ameze Owerre, Umabor community in Nsukka local government area of Enugu State. The deceased’s remains were being transported from Lagos to Nsukka for funeral arrangements when the abduction occurred.
The incident took place along 9th Mile Road in the Umuoka community, situated in the Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State. Not only did the gunmen seize Ugwuanyi’s body, but they also abducted all family members accompanying it.
According to a family source, the vehicle transporting Ugwuanyi’s body was intercepted by kidnappers, and everyone inside, including family members and the driver, fell victim to the ambush.
The kidnappers have since made contact with the family and demanded a ransom of N50 million.
Expressing concern over the situation, the source mentioned “Our fear is that the corpse will decompose before they release them. We don’t know what to do because our community people in Lagos spent so much money on the sickness of Israel.”
Amidst the crisis, the source called upon security agencies and the state government to intervene and rescue those in captivity, appealing for urgent assistance to alleviate the plight of the affected family members.
