The Nigerian Police, operating under the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Ikoyi, Lagos State, has apprehended Oyeabuchi Okafor and Jasmine Okekeagwu on charges of conspiring and defrauding popular actor Mr. John Okafor, known as Mr. Ibu, of N55 million.

Acting on a petition from Diamond Waves Law on behalf of Mr. Ibu’s wife, Stella, the FCID disclosed that Mr. Ibu’s sons, Onyeabuchi and Valentine Okafor, along with adopted daughter Jasmine Okekeagwu, allegedly conspired to swindle the actor.

According to the police statement issued by ASP Mayegun Aminat, the investigation revealed that “in an attempt to fund his medical bills, Mr. Ibu initiated a public fundraising campaign.

“The accused, Onyeabuchi and Jasmine, reportedly manipulated Stella, gained access to Mr. Ibu’s phone, and hacked into banking details. They reinstalled the banking app, transferred N55 million from the donations, and planned to escape the country after orchestrating a sham marriage.”

The police noted the recovery of N50 million from the suspects, who have been charged with conspiracy and stealing at the Chief Magistrate’s Court 1, Yaba.

The suspects were granted bail, and the case has been adjourned to March 11, 2024. The case file has been forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

Recalled that Mr. Ibu’s reported medical challenges in October 2023, prompting a public fundraising initiative where donations were received from fans and well-wishers.
