The President of Malawi, Lazarus Chakwera has said, the wreckage of a plane carrying the Vice President of the country has been discovered, and there are no survivors.

It could be recalled that on Monday morning, while flying within the nation, Saulos Chilima and nine other people’s planes vanished from airport radars.

The plane, a military aircraft, was travelling in terrible weather, which led troops to search Chikangawa Forest with the hope of locating aircraft.

The commander of the Malawi Defence Force notified President Chakwera during a news briefing on Tuesday that the search and rescue operation had concluded and the jet had been located.

Mr. Chakwera expressed his “deep sadness and regret” to Malawians over the horrific incident. He said the rescue crew discovered the aeroplane totally wrecked.

Dr. Chilima, 51, was on route to attend Ralph Kasambara’s funeral, a former government minister who passed away four days prior, as a representative of the government.

It could be recalled that despite coming from opposing parties, the president and vice president joined forces to create an alliance in the run-up to the 2020 election.

Report also had it that the former first lady, Shanil Dzimbiri, was also on board the aircraft when it departed Lilongwe on Monday morning.
