Just In: Ekiti Assembly Adjourns Plenary

The leadership of the Ekiti State House of Assembly has adjourned plenary for a few daysfollowing reports of an attempted attack on the Assembly Complex in Ado-Ekiti.

The new Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Gboyega Aribisogan – said though the leadership of the House had decided to adjourn plenary for two months, the decision was immediately reviewed following interventions from ranking stakeholders in the state.

The Assembly was shut down earlier in the day and workers asked to vacate the premises after a security report highlighted a plot to attack the Assembly 24 hours after a new Speaker emerged. Policemen were seen patrolling the premises.

Reacting to the purported plot, Rt. Hon. Aribisogan said, “As regards the plot to attack the Complex, we have met with the police and they’re currently investigating the matter”.

Although the new Speaker did not give an exact date when members will reconvene, he said it would not exceed “a few days”.

Aribisogan, a two term member of the Assembly from Ikole 1, polled 15 votes to defeat Hon. Olubunmi Adelugba (Emure-Ekiti) who polled 10 votes.
