June 12: We’re A long way from Perfect Democracy, We must Evolve – Akomolafe

By Roundoffnews

The Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the House of Representatives seat in Ekiti South Federal Constituency 1, Engr Henrich Akomolafe says Nigeria has a long way to go to enjoy the full benefits of democracy.

He however believes that Nigerians must continue to hope and be ready to make sacrifices for a better nation.

Akomolafe, in a statement signed by his media office noted that “while Nigeria has experienced 22 years of uninterrupted democratic transitions, the violence, malpractices and poor leadership have overtime undermined that process.”

“Democracy should be the rule of the majority and protection of the minority but we have created a gulf where the privileged minority rule and run the affairs of this nation.

” We need to evolve into a more mature, civil and sportsman like nature of playing politics and practicing democracy. We must provide total inclusion and good leadership across board for all Nigerians to enjoy the benefits of democracy, Akomolafe added.

The 29 year old also condemned recent violence in the Ekiti state ahead of Saturday’s Governorship election.

“Even yesterday in parts of Ekiti, We received reports of political violence allegedly resulting in one death, this and many more are major flaws of our democratic practice.

Engr Akomolafe is quoted as saying, “It is sad that despite various campaigns urging people not to engage in violence, this shameful behaviour still exhibits itself in a state like ours that is regarded as the hub of civility. I therefore want to remind everyone that nobody’s ambition is worth the blood of any individual.”

The Peoples Democratic Party Stalwart appealed to eligible voters to eschew all forms of violence and amplify their desires through the ballot only.

He also expressed confidence that the PDP and its Governorship Candidate, Otunba Bisi Kolawole would emerge victorious on June 18 and restore democratic tenets to the people of Ekiti State.
