Involve councillors, stakeholders in security architecture of states, Olowookere tells Governors

A former Special Assistant to the former governor of Ekiti state on political affairs, Hon. Kayode Olowookere has called on the state government to involve Councillors and other stakeholders in the security architecture of the state.

Olowookere, who served under the immediate past governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi made this call in Ado Ekiti while speaking with newsmen after a public event. He said the issue of insecurity in the state should be everybody’s business and that it should involve everyone in tackling it.

He condemned the killing of traditional rulers and the kidnap of school children and commiserated with the families and the communities affected.

He said the state’s one hundred and seventy-seven Councillors(177) should be the chief security officer in their respective areas and that they should work with their Kabiyesi, local hunters, and the youths to secure their communities by providing useful information about the happenings in the forest, hills, and settlements in their domain to the appropriate quarters and on time.

Olowookere, also advised that the Peace Corps in the state should be redesigned to serve as intelligence and surveillance personnel in the sixteen local governments adding that prompt information and response are very useful and important in tackling the activities of these bandits.

He charged the state governor, Gov Biodun Oyebanji to provide the necessary support for the Amotekun security team.” We don’t need to pretend, just take a look at the amotekun in Ondo state very close to us here and you will see the difference in terms of weapons and patrol network”. We should make our amotekun work, they should not be seen as toothless dogs. He added.

Olowookere, advised that the governor should charge the chairmen of local governments and local council development authority in border areas with other states to provide adequate monitoring and surveillance to all alternative routes linking to other states. ” They should understand what I am talking about and if this measure is put in place, the attack on our dear state will be reduced.” He affirmed
