The 2024 Ilasa Day Celebration was a vibrant gathering of sons, daughters, and friends of Ilasa-Ekiti, both from within Ekiti State and the diaspora. The event, marked by a deep sense of unity and cultural pride, featured a range of activities, including traditional dances, cultural renditions, homage-paying to the Kabiyesi by various groups, and captivating “Ewi” chants that celebrated the town’s rich heritage.
In his welcome address, the President of the Ilasa Development Union (IDU), Barrister Tajudeen Ahmed, described Ilasa Day as a vital platform for cultural celebration and communal progress. He highlighted past achievements funded through the event, such as the construction of classrooms for Ilasa Community Secondary School and the renovation of the Alasa’s palace.
He encouraged attendees to contribute generously to the day’s fundraising activities, assuring them of the proper utilization of their donations for further developmental projects. Barrister Ahmed also appealed to the state government to prioritize Ilasa’s inclusion in governance and implement more infrastructure projects to benefit the community.
Speaking at the event, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ajayi Omolagba, the Alasa of Ilasa-Ekiti, warmly welcomed all attendees and expressed gratitude for the efforts of the IDU, under Barrister Ahmed’s leadership, and the Planning Committee led by Pastor Oluyemi Olupepere. He lauded their unwavering dedication, assuring them that their contributions would forever be remembered in the town’s history. The monarch urged all sons and daughters of Ilasa to remain steadfast in their commitment to the town’s growth and development.
Oba Omolagba also acknowledged the efforts of Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, praising his leadership, developmental strides, and commitment to the welfare of the people.
Ilasa-Ekiti unanimously endorsed Governor Oyebanji for a second term, highlighting his numerous achievements, including interventions for artisans, civil servants, and other residents, fostering growth and economic stability across all sectors of the state.
A key highlight of the 2024 Ilasa Day was the launch of a ₦500 million appeal fund aimed at boosting social infrastructure in the community.
The celebration, filled with cultural pride and a shared vision for progress, left attendees inspired and hopeful for a brighter future for Ilasa-Ekiti.
