The governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, alongside the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris have stressed the importance of good image building for the country for a consistent growth, development and prosperity.

The emphasis was made at the opening of the 2024 Nigeria Institute of Public Relations Week held at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta.

“Leveraging Public Relations As A Critical Asset For Nigeria’s Economic and Reputation Renaissance” is the theme of the four-day event.

Governor Abiodun pointed out that any responsible government’s ability to maintain effective public relations is still essential to fostering sustainable growth.

He clarified that the people might better understand the nation’s goals and programmes if strong public relations campaigns were put in place.

” It will also engender international and bilateral co-operation and understanding,” he stated.

The public relations practitioners were charged by the governor to be patriotic and start promoting Nigeria’s image to the world so as to attract further investment and develop the real sector of the economy

Thee Minister of Information, while speaking at the event, stressed the significant role of public relations in projecting the image of Nigeria for economic prosperity.
The minister, represented by Lanre Issa-Onilu, Director-General of the National Orientation Agency, pointed out that the nation might improve its international status, promote investments, and encourage innovation through purposeful PR.

Idris emphasised that the government of Bola Tinubu, in charge of reviving the country’s economy, and taking a proactive stance in resolving issues were encouraging indicators of advancement.

Nonetheless, he pointed out that in order for the nation to fulfil its aspirations of becoming a wealthy and reputable state, its people must acknowledge the critical importance of effective public relations.

It’s more important than ever to be able to interact, communicate, and influence people in a world where information moves at the speed of light.

The power of storytelling is central to our rebirth in both economy and reputation. “We need to tell stories that highlight our successes, honestly confront our failings, and present an inspiring picture of the future,” he stated.
