EXCITEMENT AS GOVERNOR OYEBANJI ORDERS SPECIAL MEDICAL TREATMENT, SOCIAL SUPPORT FOR TWO GOVERNMENT DRIVERS INVOLVED IN 1997 BOMB BLAST

...we felt loved for the first time, says Beneficiaries

27 years after the bomb blast recorded in Ado, the Ekiti State Capital which involved the convoy of the pioneer Military Administrator of Ekiti State, Lt. Col. M. Bawa, victims of the incident are yet to recover from the injuries suffered.

Recall that the bomb attack occurred before the death of General Sani Abacha where seven people were wounded in the explosion while the Military Administrator escaped unhurt.

Two of the victims including the driver of the Military Administrator, Mr. Adeyemi John Adebayo and the driver to the Chief Detail (CSO), Mr. Adewumi Benedict Idowu, they are currently facing health challenges which is an aftermath of the ugly incident with Mr. Adebayo losing his sight.

However, the hope of the victims was rekindled after the Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji took up their medical bills and placed them on a special social support scheme.

Addressing newsmen, the Director-General, Bureau of Community Communications, Mrs Mary Oso-Omotosho said Governor Oyebanji is committed to the need of the elderly and heroes of the state.

According to her, the special intervention was necessitated by the urgent need to cater for their medical care adding that they have been taken to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital for proper medical attention.

Her words: “Governor Oyebanji has done it again as he used to do. He values senior citizens of the state. These are drivers that worked for the government, in the cause of duty. They faced health challenges on their eye.

“They approached the Governor and he instructed that they take them to EKSUTH to make some medical assessment and review all about their health. The governor does not toy with the health of Ekiti citizens especially senior citizens.”

On his part, Dr Yomi Oshatimi, Medical Director, Government House Clinic and Personal Physician to the Governor revealed that the medical bills of the drivers has been taken care by the state government.

He also revealed that one of the victims will undergo surgery while the other will be placed on routine medication which will result to almost half a million per annum.

In an interview, the beneficiaries who could not hide their joy appreciated Governor Oyebanji for the show of concern to their plight adding that previous administrations have neglected and abandoned them to their fate.

“We are grateful to our Governor, he is a kind man, we have been making efforts to seek help from successive governments but unsuccessful but here we are at just an attempt, the Governor took up our case.

“He is a man that values life and care for his people not minding their condition,we are indebted to him for this great assistance.
