Environmental Exercise: Ekiti Residents Adhere to Directive, Utilize Dino Bins

Ekiti State residents demonstrated compliance with the monthly environmental sanitation exercise for Month of May by engaging in thorough cleaning of their surroundings and utilizing the designated dino bins provided by the State Government.

Reporters from Roundoffnew who monitored the exercise, particularly in the state capital, Ado Ekiti, observed residents making use of the dino bins distributed by the state government. This positive response was attributed to recent sensitization efforts conducted by the Ministry of Environment and Ekiti State Waste Management Agency, which heightened residents’ awareness about the importance of maintaining a clean environment and properly disposing of refuse.

During a press briefing held as part of this month’s environmental sanitation exercise, Mr. Olasunkanmi Onipede, the Director General of Ekiti State Waste Management Agency, commended residents for their exemplary conduct and for utilizing the strategically placed bins provided by the state government.

He also expressed appreciation for the support received from security agents, environmental officials, and officers of the Ekiti State Road Traffic Agency during the exercise.

Mr. Onipede further praised residents, particularly shop owners, for their efforts in clearing drains around their establishments and motorists for cooperating by staying off the roads during the exercise.

Emphasizing the significance of maintaining clean habits on a daily basis, he urged residents not to wait for the monthly sanitation exercise to clean their surroundings but to make it a regular practice.

The Director General issued a stern warning to those still engaging in indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainages, road medians, and other unauthorized areas, stating that strict sanctions would be imposed on offenders.

In interviews conducted with residents, many expressed gratitude to the administration led by Governor Biodun Oyebanji for providing dino bins at strategic locations to curb the problem of indiscriminate refuse disposal.

They pledged their commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment at all times.
