Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, has said that the planning of the mass protest tagged #EndSARS in 2020 against the brutality and extortion by the notorious Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) in Nigeria started in his house.
He disclosed this in Abuja on Monday while addressing journalists shortly after the court struck out the farcical treasonable felony charge leveled against him by the Nigerian government.
He said he would continue to engage in the civil advocacy and protest until Nigerians are free and the country is liberated from the shackles of corrupt politicians.
He added that the revolution which the government is afraid of is approaching the shores of the country like Tsunami adding that only hunger would trigger the revolution.
While fielding questions from journalists on his feelings after the case, Sowore said “I am indifferent; I am very sure from the beginning that the case would not go anywhere and I wasn’t committed to an optimistic trial or even a discharge because the goal is bring about a better society.
“The good news today is that the revolution they were afraid of some five years ago is approaching the shores of Nigeria with Tsunami and I said last week that the trigger for the revolution is hunger.
“People are hungry in this country and we can’t afford to be distracted by this case. As you know regardless of the case I will continue my civil advocacy in the country and continue to engage myself in protest.
“I was part of the people that started #EndSARS; in fact the planning of #EndSARS started in my house in Abuja with Deji Adeyanju and few others.
“We were the first to go Police Headquarters and poured on the ground the blood of those that were killed by police and that was the fire ignited everywhere. Don’t let anybody tell you otherwise. We are not here to claim victory in the battle that is still alive and that why I urge you the media to be focused“.
