Ekiti Workers to Join NLC Strike

Workers in Ekiti State have expressed their support for the two-day nationwide warning strike to be embarked upon by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC.

The agreement was reached at a meeting held on Monday with state officers of NLC, consisting Chairmen and Secretaries of the affiliate unions.

Speaking during the meeting, Ekiti State NLC Chairman, Comrade Kokapo Olatunde noted that the strike became imperative since government refused to meet the demands of workers after removal of fuel subsidy.

Comrade Olatunde urged all workers under NLC to shun work tomorrow and Wednesday, saying anyone that disobey the order would be sanctioned.

According to him, “we need to embark on the strike to let government know our plight that there was need to put in place measures to cushion effect of the subsidy removal.”

The Ekiti NLC Chairman said that workers are really feeling the effect of the fuel subsidy removal, noting that workers are dieing silently.

Reacting, the Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ekiti State, Conrade Rotimi Ojomoyela promised that pen professionals in the state would be on ground to report the effect of the industrial action.
