In a major breakthrough, the Ekiti State Police Command has dismantled a notorious motorcycle theft syndicate operating in Ado-Ekiti and other parts of the state.

The syndicate, responsible for motorcycle snatchings, was busted following a tip-off and intense surveillance by the Command Rapid Response Squad (RRS).

In a statement signed the command’s spokesman, DSP Sunday Abutu, Eight suspects, including Adebayo Bashiru (a.k.a. BASHY), Oluyemi Kunle (a.k.a. GBEGBE), Gabriel Isaac, Abubakar Abdullahi, Macon Andrew, and Peter Ninfa, were arrested and confessed to their involvement in the thefts.

They revealed that they had sold stolen motorcycles to accomplices, Lawali Ibrahim and Kabiru Abdullahi, who would then transport them to the Northern part of Nigeria for resale.

The police recovered an unregistered Yellow Color Bajaj Boxer Motorcycle from the suspects, which victims identified as the getaway vehicle used by the robbers. The syndicate’s modus operandi involved snatching motorcycles from unsuspecting owners, especially in Ikere/Ado/Ekiti and Igede-Ekiti Axis.
