The national leadership of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, has inaugurated an 8-Man Caretaker Committee to oversee the affairs of the Union in Ekiti State for three months pending the conduct of fresh election.

Comrade Popoola Adetola was appointed as the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee while Ibitoye Philip will serve as Vice-Chairman.

Others are; Oloyode Foluso, Treasurer; Pastor OlQ
uyemi, Trustee 1; Omotoyinbo Benjamin, Trustee 2; Feyisetan Michael, Auditor; and Oyedele Jide, PRO.

Representing the NUP National President, Spokesperson of the Union, Comrade Bunmi Ogunkolade said the Caretaker Committee was set-up for three months to resolve issues surrounding its chapter in Ekiti State.

He however dismissed allegations that the past executives led by Comrade Joel Akinola misappropriated funds of the union in the State.

His words: “We have some challenges in the process of the election that could not allow us to move on with the election therefore the house decided to put up a caretaker committee just for 3 months and to resolve all those issues surrounding it then we come back and do our election.

“The issue that came up was that maybe the account was not properly itemized and since it deals with money. Not that money is missing. But we don’t want anything to tarnish the integrity of the election to be so conducted that’s why we accepted to take the process.

“No money is missing, however we want the account to be well prepared then we come back and do our election.”

In his acceptance speech, the Caretaker Committee Chairman, Comrade Popoola Adetola pledged to unite all the factions towards a formidable union.

He said: “My intention is how I will touch the life of an individual pensioner. The first thing is, what is exactly the rationale behind the crisis? Because you cannot stay somewhere and be solving an issue. They should expect the best and unity of purpose must come in into Ekiti NUP.”
