EKITI NUJ HANDS SECURITY SUMMIT OUTCOMES TO DSS, NSCDC, POLICE

…calls for effective action on the resolutions

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ekiti State chapter has handed a communique established after a recent summit to Security Heads in the State.

The communique which was handed over to Police, Department of State Services (DSS), and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), highlighted key issues discussed during the meeting, including the safety and security of residents of the state, and the need for improved collaboration between the media and security agencies.

Handling over the documents to them in their various offices, Ekiti State NUJ Chairman, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi said the move is expected to gain the attention of concerned authorities and give way for improved safety of life and property of the people.

Comrade Babatuyi noted that, if the resolutions in th communique were implemented it would help in addressing issue of insecurity in the state.

“We are practicing development in the society, and we see the government respond to fake news; we are also working towards putting an end to fake news.” He said.

At the police Headquarters, Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adeniran Akinwale received the communique and acknowledged the effort of Ekiti NUJ and emphasized a continuous collaboration between media and security agencies.

At the office of the Director, DSS, Ekiti, Mr Isaac O. Shotayo said security is a national business and the effort from the media is commendable.

“Security is not only journalist business it is every body business, just like you give information to the public we also need information to work. We know crimes are human actions and we want to ensure things go fine.”

“We are more like partners, let us have the nation at heart while we report, let us put at the back of our mind that we have the interest of society peace in our reporting.”

In his office, the NSCDC Commandant, Mr Sunday Agboola promised to study the items in the communique to improved on the command strategies.
