Ekiti NUJ Commissions new building for Institute of Journalism

…as SA to Governor commends outgoing administration

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ekiti State Council has commissioned newly constructed block classrooms for the International Institute of Journalism (IIJ), Ado-Ekiti Campus.

Commissioning the infrastructure in Ado Ekiti, the Special Assistant to the State Governor on Media, Mr Yinka Oyebode commended the Union Chairman, Rotimi Ojomoyela led administration for the completion of the building.

Mr Oyebode said, “My joy increased that this did not go down as an abandoned project. I am happy that the Leadership of Rotimi fulfil this project. We give glory to God. With this, we prove that Journalists can pull something out and invite the government. There are areas where government will get involved, but there are times we do things.”

“I want to appreciate the ‘I can do it’ project; I look forward to working with the outgoing Leadership and the incoming because journalists are strong government partners. I am supporting the Institution with N250 thousand.”

The Special Assistant to the governor noted that the outgoing administration of Ekiti NUJ had built foundation, adding that, he expects the incoming administration to build on the legacy.

Earlier, the Union’s Chairman, Mr Rotimi Ojomoyela appreciated God for the successful completion of the project, noting that, he has established a foundation for the incoming administration to follow.

Speaking on the validity of the Institution, he said, “IIJ is linked up with different Universities, the University of Maiduguri, we relate with the University of Ilorin for Masters, Nigeria Open University and so on. IIJ is a mono-technic we offer the study of Journalism, Public Relations and Advertising”.

According to the Former Chairman of NUJ, Ekiti Chapter, Mr Akogun Tai Oguntayo who is now the Chairman of the Academic Board of the Institution, noted that the new infrastructure will be useful for IIJ classes and for various events, saying that, gone are the days of going to outside infrastructure to have lessons.

“When I was the chairman of NUJ Ekiti State Council, we made efforts, and it was actually during that period that we started making efforts to acquire this place. We thank God that the press center that we had during our time, given to us by Dr Kayode Fayemi during my tenure from there, we were able to migrate to this place, and we are still using the place.” He added.

Also, the School Coordinator, Mr Dare Daniels spoke on the future projection of the Institution, he said, “As part of the vision of NUJ, we have plans to erect more business structures so that we can accommodate people from the outside to make use of this place.

“Another vision of NUJ is to have a pen school like a coaching center, nursery and primary school to secondary school, by God’s grace. The incoming administration would also put in more structures that would accommodate all of these things”
