Ekiti NLC wants Banks to end naira scarcity, cautions petrol stations against sharp practices

…as CBN says over five billion naira is in circulation in Ekiti

The leadership of Nigeria Labour Congress NLC, Ekiti State  has appealed to the  management of commercial banks and Central Bank  of Nigeria  to find a lasting solution to the problem of naira scarcity as experienced in the state and country at large.

The NLC leaders also warned owners of petrol stations against hoarding, diversion and hike in price of the petroleum products

The NLC leaders spoke in Ado Ekiti during an unscheduled visit of the State Administrative Council and State Executive Council of the Congress  to CBN,  Commercial banks and some petrol stations  in Ado Ekiti.

Speaking  during the visit , Ekiti State NLC Chairman, Comrade Kolapo Olatunde explained that residents of the state were still passing through stress before they could get cash In   commercial banks.

According to him, most ATMs are not dispensing and banks were not giving sufficient amount of money to customers, saying there is need to address the ugly trend in the interest of average Nigerians.

” we are  here in respect of the welfare of workers, we are here as a result of the welfare of the masses, you will recall that about two  months ago things were falling apart in Nigeria on the issue  of unavailable of currency cum Naira redesign issues.

Reacting, the representative of the   Central Bank said  over five billion naira had been released to commercial banks in Ekiti State to ease the problem of scarcity of naira facing   residents.

He lamented how some people were hoarding the money for selfish interest, urging such people to desist from keeping cash  at home, saying such is very dangerous.

Mr Adeniyi urged Nigerians to embrace cashless policy and other modes of money transactions to boost the country’s socio economy development.

Also, at first Bank, Okeyinmi Ado Ekiti, the representative of the bank pointed out that there was no enough money from the central Bank, hence  the need to judiciously disburse the available one to be able to go round customer.
