Ekiti Govt Engages Stakeholders on Proposed Distribution of Dino Bins For Effective Waste Management

...says Violators will be Prosecuted in Court

The Ekiti State government has mapped out plans to distribute 40 Dino Bins fabricated in the state to strategic locations in Ado Ekiti for effective waste management.

This was disclosed at a one-day stakeholders engagement on waste management and Dino Bins distribution organised by the Office of the Community Communications in conjunction with Ekiti State Waste Management Authority, EKSWAMA.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner For Environment and Natural Resources, Erelu Tosin Aluko revealed that 20 of the Dino Bins have been fabricated and it’s ready to be used while the remaining 20 Dino Bins will be ready soon.

She highlighted the need for proper waste disposal and where the new Dino Bins will be placed for easy access to everyone in the State Capital.

The Commissioner called on residents of the state to properly dispose their waste products by using the Dino Bins by ensuring the state is clean and healthy for living.

On her part, the Director-General, Office of Community Communications, Mrs Mary Omotosho said the essence of the stakeholders meeting is to ensure that the people take ownership of the Dino Bins.

According to her, the first set of stakeholders invited for the engagement is the leadership of market unions in the state, aimed at sensitizing them, get their suggestions on possible locations for the Dino Bins distribution and to start enforcement.

Similarly, Director-General of EKSWAMA, Sunkanmi Onipede warned residents of the state against indiscriminate dumping of refuse saying that violators will be apprehended and sued to court for proper sanctions.
He affirmed that Governor Oyebanji is committed to an hygienic environment and had spent a lot of money on ensuring proper waste management.

The event had interactive sessions on possible ways for effective waste management while locations such as Ijigbo, Okesha, Oja Bisi, Oja Oba, Irona, Fayose markets, including Atinkakan area, were suggested to kick off the distribution of the Dino Bins.

Participants at the programme showered encomium on the Governor for the huge investment in the vehicles and bins towards ensuring a clean and safe environment.
