EKITI FIRST LADY WANTS WIVES OF LG CHAIRMEN TO REPLICATE SOCIAL SAFETY NET PROGRAMMES IN COUNCILS

Wife of Ekiti State Governor, Dr Olayemi Oyebanji has charged wives of local government chairmen in the State to replicate social safety net programmes in their localities in order to bring succour to the vulnerable segment of the society.

Speaking in Ado Ekiti at a meeting with wives of local government chairmen, Dr Oyebanji said there is need to replicate the Renewed Hope Initiative of the President’s wife, Senator Remi Tinubu, as well as her own Widows and Orphans Hope Project at the local government level, stressing that both projects are aimed at making life easier for the vulnerable groups such as widows, orphans and the physically challenged.

The First Lady said the two projects encompass economic empowerment, agricultural development, health care, education and social investment, adding that they were designed to bring succour to the vulnerable in the society.

While stressing the need for the wives of the council bosses to use their positions to make positive impact on the masses,
The First Lady also emphasized the need for feedbacks from the grassroots most especially on gender related issues.

“The local governments are too quiet, there is need for impact making. There is need to ensure that all pet projects are working in the localities, I want you to be alive to it”, she said.

Contributing, the vulnerable Project Coordinator in the State, Mrs Kemi Dairo, sought the support of the leadership at the various local government to capture adequately the numbers of vulnerable people that would benefit from the initiative.

Also, the Gender officer, office of Governor’s wife, Mrs Shelly Attaniel suggested the need for council Chairmen wives to ensure surveillance at rural areas on violence against women so that the vulnerable would not be suffering from injustice.

Earlier, the Coordinator, Ekiti Council chairmen’s Wives Mrs Ebunlomo Adetunji, appreciated the proactive measures put in place to bring succor to the orphans and widows in the state promising that such would be taken to the grassroots in their own little effort.
