EKITI ALBINISM NETWORK PARTNERS HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION TO END DISCRIMINATION, ABUSE AGAINST MEMBERS

…Solicit Implementation Of Favourable Policies

The Regional Coordinator Albinism Network Association of Nigeria (ANA), Ambassador Muyiwa Abegunde, has sought the collaboration of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), to protect the rights of members and guide them against discrimination.

He made this known on Wednesday during an advocacy visit to the NHRC office, in Ado Ekiti.

Abegunde said, “We received information of discrimination of some persons with disability, and we have reported cases of sexual harassment on women and children particularly person with abilmism that is why we seek collaboration.

Also, the Regional Coordinator appealed to the Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, to honor disability laws by restructuring the disability affairs to be headed by people with disability.

“There are disability laws and policies; let the laws not be window-dressed. Let this government implement the laws signed by the previous Governor”. He added.

More so, Abegunde beaconed on the NHRC state Coordinator to aid the implementation of policies that protect people with disability. “That is the reason we are here. I see this human right as the system to help the less privileged.” Abegunde said.

Speaking at the meeting was Ekiti state Coordinator of NHRC, Mr. Biodun Adigun, who assured ANA of total support for persons with disabilities.

“I assure you that we will take the necessary actions. We are on ground against every abuse from any individual in the country; we need evidence, we will make our findings on inhuman activities, and we will present it to the government”. He stated.

Meanwhile, the Founding President of ANA, Nigeria, Mr. Adeyemi Dada, in a virtual call during the meeting, thanked the NHRC Coordinator for his attention and commitment towards the affairs of less privileged,

He also congratulated the state Commission for relocating permanently to its newly constructed office.
