EFCC Drags Former Anambra Governor to Court for Alleged Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dragged to court Willie Obiano, the ex-governor of Anambra State on nine counts charges for allegedly committing N4 billion in fraud between March 2014 and March 2022.

The 68-year-old was charged before Federal High Court Abuja Judge Inyang Ekwo today, Wednesday. Regarding the accusations of money laundering made against him, Obiano entered a non guilty plea.

Sylvanus Tahir, the EFCC’s attorney, requested that he be placed under remand in the anti-graft agency’s custody.

Obiano is presently free on administrative bail, which the EFCC gave him in exchange for two sureties who possess landed properties in Abuja and are directors in the civil service.
