Despite population, Kano holds 9th position in IGR – Ahmad laments

By Udesinanna Stephen

Former Presidential Aide, Bashir Ahmad has said despite the population of Kano State, it still holds 9th position in the 2022 Internal Generated Revenue (IGR) rating, adding that it is uncalled for.

The Former Buhari’s Aide said this lately on his X account @BashirAhmaad.

He said, “My State, Kano, with its extensive population and numerous and vibrant markets, has the potential to boost its Internal Generated Revenue (IGR) significantly. Generating a mere N42.5b in 2022 and being number nine in IGR rankings, behind states like Edo, Kaduna, Ogun, Delta, etc, should not be acceptable.

“Our potential is far more than that; the Kano state government should take proactive steps to harness our potential, such as leveraging its demographic strength, promoting/focusing on agriculture, revitalizing markets, and investing in infrastructure. I believe these sectors can help Kano to pave the way for sustainable economic growth.

Our demographic strength as the most populous state in Nigeria (according to 2006 census) is a valuable asset for internal revenue generation.” he added.
