Custom Service : Importers To Pay More Import Duty For Cargo

By Ihie Grace

The Association of Nigeria Custom Service licensed Agent says that from today, importers will pay more import duty for the clearance of their cargoes at the nation’s seaports.

The public relations officer of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents, Omome Monije, made this known to reporters.

According to her, the increment will affect vehicle clearance, and agents would need to engage their clients to avoid issues.

“This is as the Central Bank of Nigeria raised the official exchange rate from N422.30 kobo to N589 for a dollar, which the Nigeria Customs Service uses to calculate import duties and levies. It followed the floating of the naira, which allowed the market to determine the exchange rate of its currency.”
