COURT REMANDS 70 YEAR OLD MAN FOR ALLEGEDLY RAPING MINOR IN EKITI

An Ekiti State Chief Magistrate Court, sitting in Ado Ekiti has granted an order to remand a 70 year old Sule Adeola at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Ado Ekiti for allegedly raping a 10 year old girl.

The charge reads that Sule Adeola (70) within Ado Ekiti Magisterial District is reasonably suspected to have committed an offence of rape on a 10 year old minor severally, between March and June, 2023.

According to the prosecutor, the offence is punishable under Section 31 (2) of the Child Right Law of Ekiti State.

The charge was read and interpreted to the defendant in Yoruba language but his plea was not taken.

In her statement to the Police, the victim said, ‘’my mother is late while my father resides at Abeokuta. I am staying with my grandmother in Ekiti, I know (Baba Sule) the defendant, he is our neighbor, anytime my grandmother sent me on errand, he will call me to his room, he will pull my pant and insert his something (Penis) in my virgina, I usually feel pain anytime he is doing it but he always warned me not to tell anybody because he will beat me and I will die’’, she concluded.

The Police prosecutor, Inspector Olubu Apata in his submission prayed the court to look at attached documents and grant the remand of the defendant for 30 days, pending issuance of Legal Advice by the Director of Public Prosecution.

In his ruling, Magistrate Kehinde Awosika said, I have examine the reason for the arrest exhibited in the remand request form, I am satisfied that there is probable cause to remand the defendant.
The defendant is hereby ordered to be remanded at the Correctional Centre, Ado Ekiti pending issuance of the Legal Advice by the Director of Public Prosecution.

The case has been adjourned till 10th July, 2023 for mention.
