COURT ORDERS ARREST OF PROMINENT CLERIC IN EKITI

Ekiti State Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ado Ekiti has ordered the arrest of a Cleric, Venerable Oke Olarewaju for committing contempt of Court by failing to appear in court to defend himself on an alleged criminal offence.

According to the charge by the Ekiti State Ministry of justice, Venerable Olarewaju Oke is slammed with a two count offences of disobeying a lawful order issued by Ekiti state Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources directing him to abate offensive odour and discomfort from illegal rearing of poultry farm within the residential Area.

Also, Venerable Oke Olarewaju at All Saint Anglican Church, Off Adebayo, Ado-Ekiti was alleged of committing noise pollution and offensive odour from his poultry farm which caused discomfort for residents of the Area and against public health.

The charge further read that the cleric committed an offence contrary to Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The Presiding Magistrate, Afunso Saka , after taking the application of the complaint counsel said Venerable Oke should be arrested and brought to the court on 20th of this month which is the next sitting on the matter .
