Confusion: TCN Denies Permitting BEDC to Cut-off Power Supply in Ekiti

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has denied the approval of power outage, following the public notice issued by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC).

The Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) issued a public notice announcing critical maintenance work on the 132kV Akure-Osogbo transmission line.

According to the notice, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) is scheduled to carry out essential tasks, including the installation of an Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) and other activities.

This maintenance work, as per BEDC’s announcement, necessitates an outage on the affected network to ensure a safe working environment. Consequently, customers in the affected areas would experience service interruptions during the maintenance period.

BEDC expressed regret for any inconvenience this might cause and appealed for customers’ patience and understanding.

However, a statement released by the TCN Management contradicted BEDC’s notice.

TCN clarified that no such outage request had been approved. “A publication by the BEDC regarding a proposed outage on Osogbo-Akure-Ado-Ekiti 132kV line for the purpose of installing OPGW commencing on 1st July 2024 has been brought to the notice of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN.
TCN Management hereby informs the general public that no such outage request has been approved,” the statement read.

This development leaves the status of the planned maintenance work uncertain and raises questions about the coordination between BEDC and TCN. Customers are advised to stay tuned for further updates from both entities regarding the situation.
