Stephen Abuwatseya, an e-hailing driver, has expressed regret to Alex Ikwechegh, a member of the House of Representatives who represents ABA North/South of Abia State in the National Assembly, for assaulting him following a fight that broke out during a package delivery.

Abuwatseya apologized to the media for inciting Ikwechegh and begged Nigerians to pardon him in a video statement made public on Thursday. Additionally, he urged everyone to put the incident behind them.

He stated, “Good day, Nigerians. My name is Stephen Abuwatseya. I had a misunderstanding with Rt. Hon. Alex Mascot Ikwechegh a few days ago. I actually want to apologize to him for whatever I must have said or done to provoke him to that level of anger. I want to tell Nigerians that it’s not time for us to start dividing ourselves based on religion, tribes, or regions. In fact, we ought to get together, figure out how to bring this country together, and make progress. The driver also expressed gratitude to his loved ones and friends for their support during the problem.

According to reports, on October 28, Ikwechegh attacked the Bolt driver who had gone to deliver a package to him. Abuwatseya recorded the fight at Ikwechegh’s house in Maitama, Abuja, and it went viral.

The driver asked the lawmaker to come outside to pick up a package of snails that was supposed to be delivered, and the video shows the visibly irate lawmaker repeatedly slapping and insulting the driver. After the event, Ikwechegh publicly apologized for his actions and expressed regret for how he behaved during the altercation.
