The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, has advocated for the sustenance of synergy between the State Police Command and the legislature.

Aribasoye highlighted this while playing host to the new Police Commissioner in the State, Joseph Eribo, who paid him a courtesy visit at his office in Ado Ekiti.

The Speaker, who said he was delighted to receive the CP and his team, recalled the productive relationship the House enjoyed with the immediate past Police Commissioner, urging the new hand to build upon and improve on the positive foundation.

Rt. Hon. Aribasoye reiterated that the security of people’s lives and property is the primary essence of government, adding that the Police is one security agency that is critical and central to peace.

He advised the Commissioner to foster good interactions with other security outfits so that critical agencies are not working at cross purposes.

Earlier in his address, the new Police Commissioner, Eribo described the legislature as a critical arm of government with immense powers designed to strengthen the polity.

He said his visit was to help him build a good start and listen to stakeholders whose views would help enrich his work and ensure all communities within the state live in peace.

In a similar visit, the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Commandant Paul Sosina, asked for the support of the Assembly to realize the pivotal objective of securing the state.

Sosina assured of his commitment to utmost performance and ensuring the Corps lives up to expectations, while assuring that officers who refuse to align with such an agenda will be properly dealt with.

In their remarks, Hon. Tope Longe, Yomi Ayorinde, and Babatunde Omotayo expressed hope for a good relationship between the Corps and the Assembly, urging the Commandant to stick to his visions and ensure ethics are adhered to in the performance of duties by NSCDC officers.

The Speaker applauded the profile of Commandant Sosina and assured him of the legislature’s disposition to making resolutions and passing laws to strengthen security and aid the work of security outfits.

He also advised the Corps to intensify efforts towards respecting the ethics of their job and pursuing cases of apprehended criminals to the stage of prosecution.

Rt. Hon. Aribasoye underlined the supportive roles expected of members within communities in exposing and checking crimes to complement efforts of security agencies, noting that residents of his constituency recently swung into action and arrested a notorious electricity cable thief in the area.
