Actionaid Facilitates Construction of Secondary School for Ekiti Community

…seeks government approval for school

Children of Aba Osun in Ekiti West Local Government Area of Ekiti State will soon have access to secondary school education barring unforeseen circumstances.

This is due to the ongoing construction of classrooms in the community through communal efforts which was facilitated by Actionaid Nigeria through one of its programmes known as Inclusive Forum for Accountable Society (IFAS)

This development was confirmed during the quarterly meeting of IFAS held at EDFHO office, Adebayo, Ado-Ekiti.

IFAS promotes social development through the mobilization of CSOs and members of the community to identify necessary challenges facing an area with the aim of getting support from government, individuals and corporate bodies to address such situation so as to make life better for the people.

The programme is ongoing in eight communities within three local governments of Ekiti State in which Aba Osun is one of the benefiting communities.

Aba Osun community has existed for decades without a secondary school but through advocacies and engagements carried out by IFAS committee, a block of four classrooms was erected while a block of two classrooms with an adminstrative building was constructed through the help of Ekiti State Social Community and Development Agency.

Narrating the story, a member of the community, who is part of the IFAS committee, Mr. Kazeem Ahmed affirmed that the community is deeply happy by the development saying both buildings are already at roofing level.

He added that the primary health centre in the community has also been renovated to give qualitative health care services to the people.

Addressing the gathering, the Executive Director, Environment Development and Family Health Organisation, Sir. Olu Ogunrotimi thanked all participants at the meeting and said more efforts are needed to be put in place to facilitate better development in communities.

He said the meeting has always invite relevant government agencies to educate the participants on how to benefit from government programmes and policies.

Sir Ogunrotimi called on the Ministry of Education to expedite action on the approval for the school to enable it begin full legal operation.

He said efforts is on to facilitate the provision of potable water for residents of Ajebandele area also in Ekiti West Local Government.

One of the participants, the Executive Director DINABI, Olajide Funso said the organisation would support children with disabilities with necessary facilities that would enable them to access education in the community
