2021 PROFIT: N674 billion, not N687 trillion, NNPC Makes U-Turn

By Udesinanna Stephen

The Nigeria National Petroleum Company, NNPC Limited, has made a U-turn on the N687 trillion mentioned as its Profit after Tax in 2021, saying that it only made N674 billion profit in 2021.

The Company revealed this in a press statement issued on its official Twitter handle @nnpclimited and
signed by the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of
NNPC Ltd, Garba Deen Muhammad.

This is coming after the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NNPC Ltd, Mr. Mele Kyari on Arise TV said the company made a Profit of N687 trillion in 2021, contradicting its 2021 Annual Financial Statement.

According to the Press statement, the CEO unintentionally made the mistake.

The statement reads, “The Group Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPC Ltd, Mr. Mele Kyari, appeared on Arise TV Morning Show. Inadvertently, N687 trillion was mentioned as the company’s Profit after Tax figure as against N674 billion contained in the 2021 Annual Financial Statement.

“The accurate Profit after Tax figure for the Year 2021, N674 billion, was communicated to the public via our official Twitter account on 05/10/2022.”
