Members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Ekiti State have been urged to be intentional with the acquisition of skills and entrepreneurial development to stay relevant in the emerging world.
Hon Israel Adesokan (Jaru), a philanthropist and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State gave this advice while playing host to a group of Corp members led by Okpukpara chizoba Anointing at his Irewolede residence in Ado-Ekiti.
Adesokan while speaking, charged them on self-development and the need to acquire valuable skills that will make solution providers as there are a lot of challenges waiting to be attended to. In his words; “When you solve problems, you will be rewarded for your efforts. Therefore, the smart thing to do is to acquire skills that will make you a person of value.”
He charged the corp members to embark on personal as well as Group Community Development Service projects to improve the living standard of Ekiit people. “Aside adding values to yourself by embarking on a personal project, there are also rewards that come with it already available for outstanding corp members in the scheme of NYSC and I’m also aware our administration rewards corps members who show remarkable difference in service within their host communities” Jaru said
Jaru who promised to support them in whatever capacity so that they can excel told one of the corp members, Kingsley Emmanuel Gumka that he will liaise with the appropriate authority so that he could get a space at the Ekiti Parapo Pavillion which he would use as an Art gallery in the interim while the search for a permanent site continues. He swung into action by put in a call to the special assistant to the Governor on photography and a lover of art, Femi Adagunodo to join the meeting for possible assistance and synergy between the corp member and the SSA
“I think he’s trying to make our horizon bigger, he could give us money but he knows there’s no amount of money he’ll give us that will go close to what it will do by joining our forces together. I’m extremely grateful” Femi Adagunodo said
The philanthropist emphasized the need to be strategic both in their choice and execution of their community development projects so that they can attract either State or National awards or both.
Earlier, Kingsley Emmanuel Gumka had sorted the support of Jaru as he’s about to embark on a project to build a gallery in Ado Ekiti as his Community Development project. He explained his desire to embark on the project was borne out of his love for art and that Ekiti is richly blessed with beautiful artefacts which need to be put across to the world.
He continued that such a gallery becomes an everlasting monument that speaks to the aesthetic features of the Ekiti people to tourists and other art lovers.
Gumka used the opportunity to do a motion pencil drawing of Jaru which he presented to the Philanthropist.
