The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old suspected cultist, Okiki Muhammed Adewusi, and recovered two locally made pistols, three live cartridges and a battle axe in separate operations in the state.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday. He said operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics Squad, SWAT Base 7, Abule Iroko, Sango-Ota, arrested the suspect, popularly known as “Baba Obo,” in the Ore area of Atan at about 8pm on Monday, October 26, 2026, acting on credible intelligence.
A search of his residence reportedly led to the recovery of one locally made pistol and three live cartridges. Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect allegedly admitted to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity.
In a follow-up operation at about 6:30am on October 27, information obtained from the suspect led operatives to a separate location, where a second locally made pistol and a battle axe were recovered and secured as exhibits. The command described the operation as evidence of its determination to pursue actionable intelligence beyond arrests and prevent dangerous weapons from remaining in circulation.
Babaseyi said the squad had recorded another operational breakthrough in its sustained crackdown on cultism and violent crime. He added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspected accomplices and recover more weapons, while investigations continued to establish the full circumstances of the case.
The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their vigilance, professionalism and effective use of intelligence, and reaffirmed the command’s determination to dismantle criminal networks, disrupt cult-related activities and curb illegal possession of firearms.
He urged residents to provide timely and credible information on suspected criminal activities, assuring the public that the command would keep acting decisively on actionable intelligence to protect lives and property and sustain public safety across the state.
