Ekiti Guber: ZLP Candidate Steps Down, Endorses Gov Oyebanji

In a surprise political shift ahead of Saturday’s governorship election, Mr. Victor Adetunji, the Zenith Labour Party ZLP candidate for Ekiti State, has stepped down from the race and endorsed Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress APC.

Adetunji disclosed the decision in a press release signed by him on Thursday, citing the need for pragmatic politics focused on the development of Ekiti State.

He said the move followed extensive consultations with his political allies, party leaders, and supporters across the 16 local government areas.

According to him, the decision was not taken lightly but became necessary to consolidate gains already recorded under the Oyebanji administration. He urged all ZLP members and supporters to rally behind the governor and vote “en masse” on June 20, 2026.

“I now call on all Zenith Labour Party supporters across the state to unite and vote for Governor Biodun Oyebanji,” Adetunji stated. “Let us continue to support his efforts to transform Ekiti into a land of pride for all of us.”

Political observers describe the withdrawal as a significant boost for the APC, coming just 48 hours to the poll.

Adetunji’s endorsement adds to a growing list of opposition figures and stakeholders who have thrown their weight behind Oyebanji’s re-election bid, citing his performance in infrastructure, health, education, and inclusive governance.

The ZLP candidate said his decision reflects a commitment to put the interest of Ekiti people above partisan considerations. He expressed confidence that the governor’s second term would bring more dividends of democracy to the state.
