…assures Residents of Safety, Adequate Protection
The lawmaker representing Ilejemeje Constituency in the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon. Iyabo Fakunle-Okiemen, has allayed fears in the area following the killing and abduction incident that occurred in Eda-Oniyo on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.
Hon. Fakunle-Okiemen spoke with journalists in Ado Ekiti after the mega rally organized by the All Progressives Congress to cap its re-election campaign for Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji.
The lawmaker expressed sympathy with the people of Eda-Oniyo and urged them not to entertain fear. She assured residents of the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
“The government is working tirelessly to secure the release of the abducted indigenes of Eda Oniyo without any further loss of life,” she said. “I thank Governor Biodun Oyebanji for not resting on his oars in ensuring the safety of lives in the state.”
Fakunle-Okiemen also solicited support for Oyebanji’s re-election in the June 20 governorship poll, citing the governor’s achievements in Ilejemeje Constituency over the last three and a half years. These include the reconstruction of the long-abandoned 15km Iludun–Ipere–Ido Ekiti Road, remodeling of Iye Ekiti General Hospital, and renovation of secondary schools across the local government.
“There is a need for us to vote for the governor for a second term. Mr. Governor has been gracious to us in my constituency. I strongly believe his second term will be more resourceful, rewarding, robust, and impactful for the people of Ilejemeje,” she stated.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Environment and former Ekiti Commissioner for Environment commended traditional rulers in Ilejemeje LGA for their support for the governor. She also urged APC members in the local government to come out en masse on Saturday, June 20, to renew their social contract with Oyebanji until 2030.
